- Title
There's a Starman Waiting on the Beach.
- Authors
BULLINGTON, JOSEPH
- Abstract
This article discusses the impact of SpaceX's activities on Boca Chica Beach in Texas. The beach has been closed frequently to allow SpaceX to conduct rocket tests for its Starship project, which aims to develop a reusable rocket for future space travel. While some see Starbase as a promising development, many locals are frustrated with SpaceX and government officials for handing over their hometown beach to a private company. There is ongoing litigation to block future beach closures, and environmental groups are opposing a proposed land trade that would give more land to SpaceX. Critics argue that SpaceX's activities are harming wildlife and habitats, and they fear that expanding Starbase would further increase environmental impact. The article highlights the tension between economic development and environmental preservation in the area.
