- Abstract
The article is about the technique of accusing Jewish pawnbrokers of selling stolen property as grounds for their expulsion from cities in the Middle Ages. The author examines these accusations for their potential justification, along with discussing the methods by which stolen property may have been returned to its owner. The economic importance the lending and pawn activities of Jews had is also discussed, and the allegedly rare cases of Jews being convicted and punished for dealing in stolen goods are also offered.
