- Abstract
The article discusses a proposal which prohibit felons from possessing firearms in Vermont. It provides an overview of the federal firearms law and the development and rationale behind the different categories of people prohibited from gun ownership. It examines the different approaches of different state in prohibiting felons from firearm possession. It talks about the legal culture in the state and proposes a statute that restricts gun ownership for felons. It adds that the proposed statute bans most felons and those convicted of domestic crimes, as well as people with a history of mental illness, from owning firearms for a period of time after their conviction or after their illness has subsided.
