- Abstract
The sound field distortions due to the diffraction by the surface of the carrier of hydroacoustic equipment are discussed. A self-contained hydroacoustic buoy in the form of a hollow spherical shell is considered as an example. The sound field formed near such a buoy is calculated with the use of approximate and exact equations of the shell motion. Results of full-scale experiments with a self-contained hydroacoustic buoy are presented. It is concluded that the effect of diffraction by the carrier ofhydroacoustic equipment should be taken into account in full-scale hydroacoustic measurements.
