- Title
MOZAMBIQUE'S SLIDE INTO ONE-PARTY RULE.
- Authors

- Abstract
This article discusses the state of the democratic government of Mozambique. In 1992, the sixteen-year civil war ended as a peace agreement was made. The agreement required that a multiparty democratic government be established. Since then, general elections have been dominated by two parties and, although peace seems secure, the success of democracy relies on the strength of the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo), the ruling party. In the seventeen years after the peace accord, the democratic form of government has been eroded as Frelimo has taken over control of the government. A history of the civil war and the new democracy is also presented.
