- Abstract
A film criticism focusing on the representation of stepfamilies in motion pictures is presented. Topics include the films "Stepmom," "Sleepless in Seattle," and "Yours, Mine, and Ours," the narrative technique of dead mothers to create audience sympathy and provide the allusion of a nuclear family, and themes of separation and divorce in films featuring stepfamily structures.
