- Abstract
The Venezuelan migration crisis has caused a massive exodus of Venezuelans in recent years, with 7.23 million Venezuelans scattered around the world. The majority of them are in countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as in the United States and Europe. Many of these migrants are in irregular situations and face extreme needs in areas such as health, food, housing, education, and integration. Although government authorities claim that there is a massive return of Venezuelans, the provided figures are contradictory and lack verifiable sources. It is estimated that around 300,000 Venezuelans have voluntarily returned to the country since 2020, but many of them intend to emigrate again in the future due to the lack of opportunities and difficult socio-economic conditions in Venezuela. The main reasons for the return include insufficient access to basic services, the inability to make a living, and discrimination in host countries. The pandemic and restrictive migration policies have also increased the intention of Venezuelan migrants to return to their country. It is suggested to expand voluntary return programs and design public policies to facilitate the reintegration of Venezuelans returning to the country.
