- Abstract
The article reports on the removal of energy rating system in electrical appliances. According to the author, most consumers believe that A-rated devices are energy efficient. However, the ratings are based on relative values, which means that even a large appliances could be A-rated. Brenda Boardman of Environmental Change Institute stated that the A-rating encourages manufacturers to create larger appliances since its possible to achieve an A-rating. The Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances also admits that the labeling scheme does not provide sufficient guidance to consumers.
