Life blood NO problem.

- Abstract
The article focuses on Biopure's Hemopure and HemoBioTech's HemoTech, two bovine haemoglobin that act as promising substitutes for human blood. Both products are made by lysing cow's red blood cells (RBC) to release the haemoglobin then purifying and chemically treating it. Arthur Bollon, chief executive officer (CEO) of HemoBioTech, explains that bovine haemoglobin is more suitable than human haemoglobin because it does no bind oxygen as tightly and releases more oxygen to the tissues. One reason that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has failed to approve Hemopure was the problem posed by nitric oxide (NO) scavenging.
