- Title
"Merciless Indian Savages" and the Declaration of Independence.
- Authors
Smith, Gregory A.
- Abstract
The author reflects on the U.S. Declaration of Independence. He suggests that the complaints which people who formed the United States leveled against the British government are similar to complaints that American Indians lodged against the U.S. government after being placed on reservations. He argues that statements in the document are libelous for American Indians and are indicative of how the U.S. government has manipulated the Indian role in U.S. history to its advantage.
