- Abstract
An essay is presented on the recovery of the work of 19th century women in early childhood education in the U.S. It explores the placement of their work at the center of the educational reform, which includes importing, adapting, reconstructing, and transforming the classical German kindergarten. It also examines their experiences, discoveries, and differences, as well as their philosophies of education in memoir, autobiography, and instructional texts.
