SEEKING CERTAINTY IN UNCERTAIN TIMES.
- Authors
Jackson, Michael
- Abstract
The author assesses the phenomena of creating certainty amid uncertainties. He mentions the use of storytelling by individuals to recover their sense of self as actors and agents in the face of uncertain experiences. He emphasizes the importance of a degree of certainty and predictability to individuals in light of his experiences of Kuranko divination. Also cited is the role of science and religion as existential strategies to make the world appear less responsive to human control.
