- Abstract
Flexibility in the recognition of mutual needs is the result of the flexibilisation and marketization of work and the culture of the individualisation. New opportunities for the recognition of employee needs and abilities arise, but this flexibility does not live up to needs of people for recognition and of organisations for obtaining the commitment of their employees. Therefore, organisations seek to stabilise recognition. They do this by a process of formalisation and codification, recognition is identified with evaluation. The recognition of subjective abilities is connected with their codification. Moreover, organisations must take the life contexts of their employees into account. Nevertheless, they understand "Work-Life-Balance" from the point of view of the organisation. These policies do not include precarious employees and blue collar workers. The recognition problems of certain occupations and sectors, and the tensions between production and financial market rationality, offer a starting point for recognition partnerships. Overall we identify processes of individualisation and normative regulation in the struggles for recognition.
