- Title
"To Make a Novel": The Construction of a Critical Readership in Ian McEwan's "Atonement."
- Authors
D'Angelo, Kathleen
- Abstract
Presents literary criticism of the novel "Atonement" by Ian McEwan. It criticizes the metafictional elements of the novel and the revelation of Briony Tallis in the final pages that she is the author of the text. It states that Brian Finney argues with readers who find that the ending inappropriately resorts to a modish referentiality and that the novel is concerned with the making of fiction. It also cites that the novel is Briony's attempt to amend the crime committed in fiction.
