- Abstract
The article explores the impact of having a first-born child on couples' work and family, which covers economic resources, gender attitudes, workplace flexibility and availability of non-parental childcare. Topics discussed include factors playing on mothers' decision to continue working, how work hours govern mothers' decision to stay or change her occupation, and factors that affect allocation of childcare time for both first-time parents.
