- Abstract
The article presents a critical analysis of the Russian writer Issac Babel's debut story "Old Shloime". Babel had to move from place to place due to religious discrimination against Jews in Russia. The story "Old Shloime" portrays the life of a discriminated Jewish old man. This story increases the understanding of Babel's development as an author, information on the characters in his later writings, and is a deep and intellectual composition.
