- Abstract
This paper reports on an experimental program and a finite element analysis investigating the seismic behavior of reinforced ribbed composite walls with different opening conditions. Three specimens of half-scale models of the prototype structure were tested under the combined action of axial compression and reversedcyclic transverse loading. The experimental study's main parameters were the failure modes, bearing capacity, hysteresis performance, ductility, and stiffness degradation. The failure mode and seismic performance of walls with openings were compared with that of fundamental walls. Some important conclusions drawn are that a wall with the door and window openings experienced shear failure; the ultimate bearing and the lateral stiffness of a wall with no ribbed column are greatly weakened by the wall opening; and the ribbed column at the edge of the wall opening can strengthen the weakening of the ultimate bearing capacity and lateral stiffness of the wall opening.
