- Abstract
Marriage, in its double function as a sacrament for Christians and as an object of legal regulation by Civil and Canon Law, gave rise to a long list of documents that came from the various hearings and tribunals dedicated to the proceedings, lawsuits, demands, petitions and cases within its jurisdiction. This study deals with its impact on the extensive archbishopric of Toledo, through the innumerable files of the Governing Council and its Audience, placing emphasis on women and the different vicissitudes that the marriage bond went through from the previous commitment to the break-up and separation, in some cases.
