- Abstract
Focuses on the amphibious liverwort, Riccia fluitans, which were grown at saturating nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations in a cross-factorial design under three levels of light and three levels of CO[sub2] making a matrix of nine treatments. Relative growth rate (RGR) under these conditions; Measurement results of photosynthetic parameters; What maximum net photosynthesis (NP[sub max]) indicated about light and CO[sub2] availability; How NP[sub max] decreased significantly with increasing light intensities but increased with increasing CO[sub2] concentration; Impact of light availability and CO[sub2] on the CO[sub2] compensation point for photosynthesis; View that observed responses to changes in light and CO[sub2] availability and the interactions between the two will alleviate CO[sub2] limitations in dense buoyant mats where the light is typically high; Why these interactions also allow penetration to greater depths where light is scarce.
