- Abstract
Over 1000 castles, manor houses, mansions, palaces, curia, etc. have been inventoried in Romania (Monumente Uitate), most of them having, at some point in time, a landscaped garden. To these 1000 castle gardens are added several hundreds belonging to churches, monasteries, and various public institutions (museums, schools, public institution offices, etc.) and probably an equal number of municipal public parks. Even though only around 160 of these parks and gardens are listed individually in the List of Historic Monuments (MEXI 2018-2019), the number of those that are protected by law as part of a historic building, ensemble, or site listed as national cultural heritage is higher. Despite being listed as historic buildings and, implicitly, having a legal protection status, their state of preservation is precarious, and one of the reasons behind this fact and, implicitly, the improper substantiation of some restoration interventions is the lack of historical information and/ or verified and validated information. A historical analysis of all the immovable assets that make up the landscaped cultural heritage in Romania, whether or not listed in the List of Historic Monuments, is necessary, but this analysis can only be carried out in small steps and through in-depth studies both in archives and libraries, as well as on site. In this context, the article aims to cover part of the information gap regarding park history in Romania, investigating the history and evolution of the park of the “Little Trianon” Palace in Floreşti, Prahova County and presenting study methods and field analyses during which a series of data discovered in archives and libraries were verified. At the same time, the article also describes examples of good practices represented by conservation and enhancement works carried out in this space endowed with natural, but especially cultural values.
