- Title
LA GUERRA DE LOS MAPAS ENTRE ARGENTINA Y CHILE: UNA MIRADA DESDE CHILE.
- Authors

- Abstract
In schools, newspapers, and military barracks in Argentina and Chile, an image is conveyed of the neighboring country that is always expansionist. To Argentines, all lands to the south of the Bío-Bío belonged to the viceroyalty of Río de la Plata and, therefore, should be Argentine; to Chileans, Patagonia belonged to Chile until the 1881 treaty, which Chile signed under pressure during the Pacific War. This article shows that all of these perspectives are untrue since certain documents, antecedents, and royal dispensations have not been taken into consideration. Serious mistakes that are accepted in both Argentine and Chilean historiography are described and explained.
