- Abstract
This study deals with hyperbolic language and aims at illustrating its use in electoral journalistic discourse, more precisely in headlines. The analysis takes as a baseline the propensity of headlines to exaggerate for marketing reasons, which creates the prerequisite for the prevalent use of hyperboles. A study conducted on headlines excerpted from the daily newspaper Libération, column Présidentielle, will help reveal the most frequent means used to express hyperboles and will show the contribution of the latter to dramatizing electoral events in discourse.
