- Abstract
Objective: The paper aims to investigate the financial and sports variables that influence the value of the most valuable Brazilian soccer clubs. Background: It is justified by the deepening in a sphere of the soccer market studies until then little explored, that is the Brazilian soccer clubs value, as well as its relationship with financial and sports variables. Methodology: Data from the most valuable Brazilian football clubs were collected according to the BDO RCS survey (2017), as well as the financial statements of football clubs from 2011 to 2016. The survey's sample is composed of 24 teams, with a view to the exclusion of sixteen clubs that had no data available or were considered outliers through boxplot analysis. In the proposed model, Tobin's Q was used as proxy for the value of clubs. Through the Gretl 2015® statistical package, multiple linear regression was performed for data treatment. Results: It was observed that the variables "CBF ranking", "cost/revenue" and "degree of indebtedness" and were statistically significant to explain the value of Brazilian soccer clubs, differently from the variables "return on assets", "first division "and "current liquidity", which were not significant. Contributions: Therefore, it can be seen that the clubs with the highest scores in accordance with the convention of the national ranking of clubs, as well as those with higher indebtedness indexes and cost efficiency are more valued in the market.
