India, Pakistan, and the Contest for Kashmir.

- Abstract
As the Indian subcontinent attained independence from the British, the politics of the time created two separate states. As both India and Pakistan contested for Kashmir, circumstances favored India. The constituent assembly, while drafting the Constitution, also provided special provisions to the state. The abrogation of Article 370, on August 5, 2019, attracted criticism from various interest groups. The elevation of Gilgit-Baltistan to provisional provincial status by Pakistan has also raised questions on Pakistan's commitment to the resolution of the issue according to UN resolutions. This article revisits the Kashmir dispute in light of these latest developments.
