- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the word "Golem" in literary history and the Yiddish dramatic poem "Der Goylem," by Yiddish language writer H. Leivick. Topics include the root of the Golem mythology in Prague's Jewish ghetto and the historical figure of Rabbi Judah Leyb ben Bezalel, the Maharal, or the chief rabbi of Prague, the analogies between the Golem and the Zombie literary figures, and H. Leivick's dramatic poem about the Maharal, his creation of the Golem, and Jewish messianism.
