- Abstract
The characteristics and particularities present in the individuals that make up each of the generational groups have been discussed in both the academic and the empirical context. In the workplace can be seen that some values have greater relevance for a generation than to the other. In this context, the main objective of this study is to identify the factors that contribute to the retention of professionals from generations X and Y in organizations. The study analyzes five factors related to the retention of people: routine work, personal interaction, professional development, economic benefits and social responsibility. The research is classified as descriptive and quantitative. Data were collected through a survey of a group of graduating students of administration in a university located in Porto Alegre, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The results show that the main differences are in professional development factors and interaction staff who are more valued by the Y generation than the generation X.
