- Abstract
This article discusses the historical discovery of the uterine tubes, also known as fallopian tubes. While Gabriele Falloppio is commonly credited with this discovery, the article argues that Medieval Persian scientists, such as Sayyed Ismail ibn Hasan, also known as Jorjani, recognized the function of the uterine tubes even earlier. Jorjani's descriptions of the tubes in his medical encyclopedia, as well as other Persian medical texts, demonstrate a clear understanding of their anatomy and function. The article suggests that Falloppio may have been influenced by this Persian knowledge when writing about the female reproductive anatomy.
