- Title
LITTLE CHERRY VIRUS IN ORNAMENTAL CHERRY.
- Authors

- Abstract
This article discusses the results of a survey of ornamental cherries conducted in 1965 to assess more accurately the incidence of little cherry virus in commercial stocks in England. Budwood from 20 varieties of scion mother trees of ornamental Prunus was obtained from 17 commercial propagating nurseries in England and were tested for the presence of little cherry virus by budding on to the indicator rootstock Mazzard F12/1. The virus was detected in 37 of a total of 60 tests and in 15 of a total of 20 varieties. All infected varieties were symptomless carriers. Some varieties were totally infected while others which have been in Great Britain for up to 100 years were apparently healthy. This raises the possibilities of varietal resistance to infection or the absence of efficient vectors.
