- Abstract
The article analyzes the poem "Address to Lord Bellamont" by Benjamin Tompson. The author examines Tompson's use of conventions traditionally associated with pastoral poetry as well as influences from New England literature featuring wit and rural diction. Other topics covered include Tompson's literary style prior to this poem, his descriptions of the New England landscape, and issues of primitivism and civilization.
