- Abstract
The objective of the research was to analyze the residents' perception about the insertion and development of the territory and territorialization categories in the Multiprofessional Residencies in Family Health in the State of Pernambuco. The proposed study design consisted of a descriptive and exploratory study with a qualitative and quantitative approach, with the application of a questionnaire composed of open and closed questions to thirty-one residents of three residency programs in the State. It was found that even with a broad, dynamic, and multidimensional concept of territory, residents reported difficulties in using the concepts in professional practice and pointed out the need for changes in teaching methodologies, in addition to increasing the workload reserved for debate and understanding of the territory and territorialization categories. The need to rethink the way in which the categories are inserted in the programs was evidenced, since the understanding of territory and territorialization allows the formation of more critical, purposeful, and technically competent professionals to understand and act according to the health needs of the community population.
