The article discusses the work of labor historian and activist David Montgomery, highlighting the his writing on class, democracy, and the labor market in United States labor history. The author focuses on Montgomery's book "Citizen Worker," and special attention is paid to the history of American capitalism and government policies on labor. Other topics include the history of housing for workers, women labor activists, and the connection of Montgomery's work to The Occupy Wall Street protest movement.
