- Abstract
Machinability by electrical discharge machining (ED) can be estimated by some indicators, one being the material removal rate. For some specific electrode tool geometries, the work conditions (input variables) can influence the shape or volume of the cavities generated by the electrical discharges in the case of test pieces made of various materials. Experiments were achieved in order to study the effects of the electrical discharges developed between copper tool electrodes having various sizes and shapes and test pieces made of brass. The variation of input parameters, the tool electrode thickness and the electric capacity, revealed changes in the size of the discharge crater obtained, thus enhancing the machinability of the single discharge electroerosion. Based on the experimental results, mathematical functions that indicate the most influencing parameters were established.
