- Title
Group Accidental Death Benefits: An Inherent Contradiction.
- Authors
Berekson, Leonard L.
- Abstract
After approximating the real worth of accidental death insurance, this paper discusses the reasons an organization typically gives for adding accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage to group life insurance. The author feels that adding AD&D to group life insurance coverages is contradictory to the best interests of the covered employees—reallocating the premiums spent for adding AD&D toward the purchase of additional amounts of group life insurance is presented as a more logical way of utilizing the premium dollars. One firm's experience with such a reallocation is discussed.
