La 'modernità' di Danton.
- Authors
TESINI, MARIO
- Abstract
The figure of Danton has not only been at the centre of the historical debate concerning the French Revolution, but has benefited from an enduring artistic and literary fortune. This paper reconstructs Danton's image in the minds of his contemporaries and in the interpretations of historians, with particular reference to some of the most important moments of his political career such as his opposition to La Fayette. The paper also discusses the aims of his political action which was characterized by the instrumental use of violence and the control of public money, which was rooted in his revolutionary experience but which also prefigured future tendencies of political modernity. Reflecting on Danton today indeed contributes to answer fundamental questions concerning the eternal problem that links the individual to the historical process
