- Abstract
We determined the efficacy, stability and safety of laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) in patients with refractive errors. 264 patients (509 eyes) who underwent LASIK were divided into: group 1 with 321 myopic eyes and group 2 of 188 hyperopic eyes. Astigmatism in both groups was less than 4,50D. Follow up was 1 day, 1 week, 1, 3 and 6 months postoperatively. Group 1 had the average preoperative SE -3,57±1,97D. 1 month postoperatively SE was -0,46±0,58D and did not change significantly. Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) was 0,5 or better in 95% of eyes at 1, and in 100% of eyes at 3 and 6 months postoperatively. Average group 2 SE was 2,71±1,09D. 1 month postoperatively SE was 0,31±0,15D and remained similar after 6 months. UCVA was 0,5 or better in 93,17% of eyes at 1, 97,6% of eyes at 3 and 100% of eyes at month 6. Intraoperative complications occurred in 3 eyes (0,58%), free flap in 2 eyes and 1 eye „buttonhole“. Postoperative complications were: displaced flap (0,19%), diffuse lamellar keratitis (DLK) (0,19%), dry eye (6,28%). 1 eye had residual myopia of -1.25D, one eye had residual hypermetropia of 1,00D and one had myopic shift of -0,75D. LASIK is effective, safe and stable procedure for refractive errors with small number of complications.
