- Title
Blood Lead Levels and Hypertension.
- Authors
Heaney, Robert P.
- Abstract
Presents a letter to the editor on research by Nash and colleagues, which associated blood lead levels and higher blood pressure in postmenopausal women. Disagreement with Nash that the blood levels of lead analyzed in the study had a toxic effect, but rather reflects calcium intake and resorptive release of lead into the blood; Suggestion that high calcium intake might prevent any blood pressure effect resulting from calcitriol or lead from bone resorption.
