Suggests that while academic medicine in the United States has striven to achieve an equitable representation of minority students in medical schools, societal events have placed barriers on a physician workforce that would fairly reflect the United States population. Examples of efforts made by the Association of American Medical Colleges; Theories as to why the number of minority group medical school applicants has decreased; How medical schools should create opportunities for qualified individuals.
