- Abstract
The book I Contested homelands: Politics of space and identity i by Nazima Parveen addresses the very important issue of space-community (Hindu-Muslim) relations in Delhi, one of India's major historical cities. Chapter 4 offers an intense discussion of the urban planning process in postindependence Delhi, asserting that in practice many of the policies were tainted by communal and sectarian agendas. It tries to trace the lineage of the term "Muslim space" and develop an argument with which to scrutinize the given Muslim homogeneity and religiosity in relation to the multiple sociocultural manifestations that take place in Delhi's Muslim-dominated streets, I mohallas i , or I ilaqas i .
