- Abstract
The article discusses a research study on the evaluation of the utility of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF)-I and IGF-binding protein (BP3) serum levels in the diagnosis of children with growth hormone deficiency (GHD). Study subjects were 207 short pubertal children whose growth hormone response to provocative tests were examined and their IGF-I and IGF-BP3 serum levels were determined. Results indicated the inadequacy of IGF-I and IGF-BP3 as substitute for stimulus test in diagnosing GHD in children with short stature.
