- Title
Japan's novelty grace period solves the dilemma of 'publish and perish'.
- Authors
Tessensohn, John A.; Yamamoto, Shusaku
- Abstract
The article reports that the Japanese government has introduced the novelty grace period for patents by adopting the Bayh-Dole Act. The change has removed a stumbling block for researchers in Japan who now have a six month period to publish and patent their inventions and discoveries. The article suggests that scientists could have profitable tie-ups with Japanese academia and take advantage of the novelty grace period.
