- Abstract
The article presents a study which investigates fungal infection in two commercial carps Hamilton (Catla catla) and Valenciennes (Ctenopharyngodon idella) stocked in earthen nursery ponds and reared under semi-intensive culture conditions in a private fish farm in Lahore, Pakistan. The study uses sixty fishes which were weighed, measured, and examined thoroughly for fungal and parasitic infections. Results show that 54 of the fishes were infected with fungal infection, saprolegniasis, and concurrent infection of Saprolegnia sp. and Lernaea sp. Moreover, occurrence of saprolegniasis is related to biological and ecological factors.
