- Title
Victorian Poetry and the Culture of Evaluation by Clara Dawson, and: Book Traces: Nineteenth-Century Readers and the Future of the Library by Andrew M. Stauffer (review).
- Authors
Chapman, Alison
- Abstract
But the interactions of readers through books, and the books' evidence of romantic and familial lives, also suggest an insistently social model of poetics and poetry books. Stauffer also makes a compelling case for the relationship between the material format of Victorian poetry volumes, their book traces, and Victorian poetics itself. Dawson's argument, based on the conceptual and material inter-relationship between poetry volumes and periodical reviews, could fruitfully be expanded to consider the language of periodical poetry in relation to the culture of evaluation.
