- Title
Memory's Ministry: Nurturing Our Congregations and Our Narratives.
- Authors
TUCKER, CYNTHIA GRANT
- Abstract
In this article, the author discusses the life of author and intellectual Margaret Fuller and argues that Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations can benefit from thoughtful group discussions similar to those Fuller held for women in Boston, Massachusetts in the 19th century. Particular focus is given to the idea of narratives, which the author explains as versions of the past shaped by people's memories and intentions. A list of questions for use in discussions about the narratives of UU communities is presented, including such topics as the importance of history, the motives for presenting history, and the personal nature of narratives.
