- Title
Determining Risk of Infection with Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) during Pregnancy Requires Serological Testing.
- Authors
Deresinski, Stan
- Abstract
The article discusses a study on the risk factors for herpes simplex virus (HSV) transmission during pregnancy, by C. Gardella and colleagues. The study found that the only significant independent risk clinical factor for acquisition of HSV-1 infection was having a partner with a history of oral herpes. The authors suggested identification of those at risk of newly acquired HSV infection would provide the opportunity for targeted interventions intended to reduce the risk of transmission.
