- Abstract
This article discusses the advantages and drawbacks of robotic-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for complex pulmonary segmentectomy, specifically in cases involving small pulmonary nodules. The authors highlight the importance of a streamlined pathway for diagnosis and treatment, but also raise concerns about the decision to offer surgery without intraoperative biopsy, which could lead to unnecessary morbidity. The study reveals adverse operative outcomes, missed nodules, and excessive lung resections, emphasizing the need for caution and consideration in performing complex segmentectomies. The authors reference other studies in the field of lung cancer surgery to provide valuable insights into surgical expertise, intraoperative conversion, and the evaluation of lymph nodes and margins. The authors suggest that their conclusions may require reconsideration in light of the findings presented and encourage a diverse understanding of the implications of their research.
