CONSPIRAÇÃO E DEMOÇÃO: MECANISMOS DE SIMPLICA ÇÃO DA ESTRUTURA SILÁBICA.

- Abstract
It is plausible to propose that some synchronic phenomena in Brazilian Portuguese, namely the reduction of unstressed nasal diphthongs, monothongation of oral falling diphthongs and deletion of vibrants in coda position, seem to conspire towards a common goal or direction. These apparently distinct phenomena present, however, similar behavior: in all of them, the simplification of syllable structure is the result of the same process: the demotion of MAX-IO. To understand this claim, it is necessary to make clear what conspiracy is.
