- Abstract
The article traces the origins of chemical engineering education in Great Britain. According to history, chemistry departments in different cities paved the way to the evolution of chemical engineering. The development of chemical engineering is also attributed to the increasing demand for training in fundamental principles related to engineering or chemistry. In 1870, a chair of technical chemistry was founded by James Young that eventually served as the prototype upon which the Royal Institution and Birkbeck College in London, England were modeled.
