- Abstract
In this article the author discusses the life and work of Nancy Azara, an American wood sculptor. It is noted that Azara's work is grounded in an alternative, grassroots feminism. A number of issues related to Azara are examined including the talismanic nature of her art, her use of images of the human hand, and her employment of tempura paint. A variety of Azara's works are mentioned including "Circle with Seven Hands," "Hickory with Hands," and "Leaf Altar for Nunzia 1913-2004." Also discussed is Azara's book "Spirit Taking Form: Making a Spiritual Practice of Making Art."
