- Abstract
The article reports on the diverse types of microorganisms in oceans, based from a study in the "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences." Scientists asserted that majority of the marine microbial diversity were unknown and those of low abundance are essential in the marine environment. According to the director of Josephine Bay Center for Comparative and Molecular Biology and Evolution Mitchell L. Sogin, they have discovered more than 20,000 in a single liter of seawater through their study.
