- Title
THE NATIONAL NATIVE TITLE TRIBUNAL'S FAÇADE OF INDIGENOUS ADVOCACY.
- Authors
Corbett, Tony
- Abstract
The article discusses the National Native Title Tribunal's (NNTT) facade of indigenous advocacy through its outcome and output framework which it uses to report and measure its performance in accordance with Commonwealth requirements in Australia. It discusses the Eddie Mabo case which won a land rights victory in the High Court's decision. It also presents an outline of the Native Title Act of 1993 and the NNTT. It also describes and analyses arbitration which is one of the four key outputs of the Tribunal. The facade conceals the reality that when arbitrating between indigenous and non-indigenous parties competing for valuable resources, the Tribunal tends to rule in favor of the latter party.
